Donjon Dredges Elizabeth Channel in Newark Bay

Hillside, New Jersey, USA
July 17, 2001

Donjon Marine Co., Inc., based out of Hillside, New Jersey, was awarded a 1,000,000 yd3 dredging project in Port Newark, New Jersey, earlier this year by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

The primary dredging unit, Michigan - a three (3) spud cable dredge - is owned and operated by Donjon Marine. The company selected a 16 yd3 environmental bucket, manufactured by Cable Arm, to fulfill the contract requirements. This bucket has proven to be quite successful in removal of material to a point "of refusal", an area just at the silt/clay interface.

Other vessels involved are three (3) tugs, a crew boat, and two (2) new 4,000 yd3 ocean dump scows. The dump scows will be used for the disposal of approximately 700,000 yd3 of material from the Elizabeth Channel, within Port Newark, after approximately 300,000 yd3 of silt material is removed and disposed at an upland facility in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Donjon Marine is a multi-faceted marine company, performing salvage, ocean towing, dredging, and construction for nearly 40 years.
